Warren D Johnson, M.D., FACP

Warren D. Johnson, Jr., M.D. is the B.H. Kean Professor of Tropical Medicine and Chief of the Division of International Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. Dr. Johnson is a graduate of Carroll College (B.A.) and of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (M.D.). His research interests include clinical and epidemiological studies of AIDS, tuberculosis, and leishmaniasis, and the host immune response to protozoa (Toxoplasma, Leishmania). He has served as Chairman of the NIAID Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Research Committee (1987-1990) and on the NIAID National Advisory Diseases Council (1995-1999). He served as the Chairman of the American Board of Internal Medicine Infectious Diseases Subspecialty Board (1996-2000), as a Director of the ABIM, and as a Councilor of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (2000-2003). Dr. Johnson has directed Cornell research and training programs in Brazil since 1969, and in Haiti since 1980. Dr. Johnson received an NIAID MERIT award for studies of the "Natural History of HIV Infection in Haiti" (1990). Dr. Johnson is currently the principal investigator or Co-PI of seven research and training grants for work in New York, Haiti, Brazil, and Tanzania. He is a Professor Honorario of the Federal University of Bahia (1989), a recipient of the Emilio Ribas Medal (1992), and a member of the Brazilian National Academy of Sciences (2006).
